RE: I never understood in the handheld pokemon games
Well, everyone technically said what I was going to say. :x But if you think about it, the schools in the games taught about Pokemon, their status conditions and what to use on them. They technically didn't start this until Johto, however, there's a guy in Celadon who has a chalkboard that lists the status. That's really late in the game and you already know what does what. Johto has the school in Violet City, but again, it's pretty much the second town and kind of late because you know what does what. Hoenn, school is in Rustboro and once again, it's "late" because you've been through two towns already plus a forest. Sinnoh, the earliest school is in Jubilife. That's closer, as Sandgem's the only town you go through, kind of like in Johto. Now, Unova, the preschool is on roure 3. You have to pass through two towns to get there. Coincidence to Hoenn, much?
But the fact remains for all of the regions: their schools come in too late when the Trainer is already starting their adventure. So, as newbie Trainers, they just learn through experience, much like what pk605 said. What I don't get is why the Bikes cost 10,000,000 pokedollars, and you can only carry up to 9,999,999. One buck short. :/ I can understand because they're kids on a journey and carrying all that money is ridiculous, but still. But yeah, like DarkAura said, Pokemon world probably isn't supposed to make sense. Dolls being used to flee from a vicious monster? Really? XD Or somehow, in a Safari, you throw the Pokeball and miss the Pokemon target. (man I hated that) But, in Gen 4, coming across a wild double battle (with Riley/Cheryl/Mira/Marley) you can't throw a Pokeball because there's two targets, so you can't choose which one you want to throw it at, because the Pokeball "targets" a Pokemon (probably the first one). While that makes sense in Gen 4, missing the Pokemon in Gen 1 does not. So, in a way, the "making sense" goes back and forth. Some things make sense, others don't, like badges.
