How the "Trainer" doesn't go to school, or anything like that, but when he/she obtains a pokemon...can go to school?

It's almost like they don't want tuition, they want you to have a Squirtle.

RE: I never understood in the handheld pokemon games
The Pokemon world is much different than our world. The Pokemon world is so cheap they can only afford one Pokemon School in every region. And people will not trust you with a Pokemon until you are old enough, so you get your starter when you are about ten years old. Then you travel to the town with the Pokemon school, which is coincidentally in one of the first few towns.

Either that or they think you are perfectly capable of just looking up what the items and berries do on the internet. Either way, it's just Pokemon. Physics don't mix with Pokemon.

Well what if everyone is home schooled, and trainers exceed because they are some of the few people who somehow have social skills because most people wouldn't? Just a guess... xD

So, they're so cheap they only get ONE School in the country...you'd think they'd use some Pokemon to benefit them or something.....

Do you really think that Ash went to Pokemon school? I dun think so. Did Misty ever learn to train Pokemon? I dun think so. Did Ash ever go to a Pokemon school in Kanto or Johto? I dun think so.

Well in Roman times the men never had to go to school, they learned to become warriors/gladiators whatever.

Why was brock always cooking and stuff, then?

Pokemon makes NO sense.

Brock was the caretaker of his 9 siblings, because his mother died and his Father can't really take care of his children. So Brock became the "mother" of his siblings, which also allowed him to learn to cook. (Of course, they say she died at the time, but a Pokemon Chronicles episode showed her alive and well)

And seriously, who cares if Pokemon makes no sense? If Evolution's a theory, why do they evolve? How can berries heal status ailments? How are there tiny capsules that capture large and small Pokemon? There are no logical answers for any of these questions because Pokemon is just a fictional place. Pokemon does not always abide to the rules of out Earth.

I'm not saying it doesn't have to make sense...I'm just saying it would probably be more relative to its younger audiences if it did.

most of us go to school to get education. and we need education for our future jobs.
but pokemon trainers dont need to go to school because they educate themselves through their adventures. and theyre trainers and thats their job. no need for education.

^my theory.

...Seriously? No it wouldn't. For a sitcom, yeah, but not for an anime/cartoon. It's for little children; Not everything has to make sense. The children of the world won't really think on that until they're older.

And Brock's backstory on knowing how to cook is perfectly relatable. Seriously, thinking that "Women stay in the Kitchen and Men go out and hunt" is totally stereotypical. Many males know how to cook and are good at it.

Same with Cilan; He enjoys cooking, it's not something just for women.

And what does Roman times have to do with Pokemon? Pokemon has absolutely NOTHING to do with Roman...

Remember, not everything in Pokemon has to make sense, but it makes enough sense. Don't fret about the little things that don't make sense; Chances are, they aren't supposed to make sense and aren't a big deal. Smile

That's highly sexist. This is a kid's show we're talking out. Like DarkAura said, it's for more younger audiences, when they don't think about stuff like this.

How would it not be more relative to younger audiences if it was based towards reality?

I know when I was younger I could relate to some programs on TV if they had something in common with me.

Lay off the Vodka.

Now on-topic. I played the handheld games just so I could know what it was like to actually have a team. It's nothing like the anime or manga in terms of control. Your Pokémon are unable to dodge most attacks, sheer will powers is not used to keep them from fainting; it's their stats, ex cetera ex cetera. Kinda disapointed me.

Keep making drunk threads.

I'm sure there are schools for people with normal lives. Also Pokemon trainer is a career as you can make some pretty sick money too, in platinum you can like buy a fancy resort. Also I think there are more towns you just can't get to, because your character's head is too fat to get in between trees.

Also it pretty much sucked to be a woman anywhere before the like... the 1900s. Almost universal oppression across the board.

RE: I never understood in the handheld pokemon games
@ Electric: The legendaries are said to keep the world in order. That's why Ash never catches them, because the natural balance of the world would be chaotic if he did. The games don't abide by that rule, so they let you capture Legendaries with no effects whatsoever.

@ xoryd: Bugs...are bugs...They're probably the most realistic Pokemon there is. For Caterpie, Weedle (Weedle evolves into a Bee Pokemon, but the way ti evolves is similar), Wurmple, and Burmy (It evolves into Mothim), they go by the Caterpillar < Cocoon < Butterfly/Moth stages, like normal caterpillars do. For Venipede, it evolves like a Centipede.

The bug types have the most realistic characteristics than any other type.

RE: I never understood in the handheld pokemon games
Well, everyone technically said what I was going to say. :x But if you think about it, the schools in the games taught about Pokemon, their status conditions and what to use on them. They technically didn't start this until Johto, however, there's a guy in Celadon who has a chalkboard that lists the status. That's really late in the game and you already know what does what. Johto has the school in Violet City, but again, it's pretty much the second town and kind of late because you know what does what. Hoenn, school is in Rustboro and once again, it's "late" because you've been through two towns already plus a forest. Sinnoh, the earliest school is in Jubilife. That's closer, as Sandgem's the only town you go through, kind of like in Johto. Now, Unova, the preschool is on roure 3. You have to pass through two towns to get there. Coincidence to Hoenn, much?

But the fact remains for all of the regions: their schools come in too late when the Trainer is already starting their adventure. So, as newbie Trainers, they just learn through experience, much like what pk605 said. What I don't get is why the Bikes cost 10,000,000 pokedollars, and you can only carry up to 9,999,999. One buck short. :/ I can understand because they're kids on a journey and carrying all that money is ridiculous, but still. But yeah, like DarkAura said, Pokemon world probably isn't supposed to make sense. Dolls being used to flee from a vicious monster? Really? XD Or somehow, in a Safari, you throw the Pokeball and miss the Pokemon target. (man I hated that) But, in Gen 4, coming across a wild double battle (with Riley/Cheryl/Mira/Marley) you can't throw a Pokeball because there's two targets, so you can't choose which one you want to throw it at, because the Pokeball "targets" a Pokemon (probably the first one). While that makes sense in Gen 4, missing the Pokemon in Gen 1 does not. So, in a way, the "making sense" goes back and forth. Some things make sense, others don't, like badges.
