'One Shake, Caught!'
Anyone else had this on Black/White? When you throw a ball at a pokémon: as soon as it gets sucked into the ball, the ball briefly vibrates whilst in mid-air. When the ball falls to the ground, it rolls only once and then the ball goes dark and stars come up to confirm that you've caught the pokémon.

This happened to me a couple of times but I wasn't 100% sure that I hadn't just missed it but i just caught one of those big beastin' buffalos and I deffinitely was paying attention.

Happened to anyone else? Anyone know how or why this happens?

Yup. This is called the "Critical Catch".
Like a critical hit for Pokemon, when you throw the ball, it sometimes has the chance to make a critical catch, and sometimes instantly catch Pokemon.

It also has a chance for the Pokemon to break out of them too, however majority of the time, the Pokemon gets captured. It's awesome, isn't it?

Edit: Also, Critical Catches happen by chance like Critical hits. XD

Nice job. XD But doesn't the Masterball kind of already do that?
You can get another Masterball by trading 50 times over GTS. XD

Awe. Some. Now I just need to find the GTS. XD

Never happened (as far as I've known), but I hope it happens with a good Pokemon. XD

EDIT: I just got one with a Deerling. I didn't see it shake in the air, but I heard it! Big Grin

RE: 'One Shake, Caught!'
The first time it happened i just thought it maybe always happens for a duplicate pokemon, cos it was on a minccino, and i was getting another one to trade that guy in driftveil city. Then it happened again, and i was confused. I was happy when i saw this thread and saw what it was all about... Does anyone know the rates for the different pokeballs?

Thanks Galdy!

As Galdr said above, it's a Critical Catch, like a Critical Hit, but only with catching.

I don't think anybody knows yet - Serebii are still working on it, at least.

GTS:
Pokemon Center > third person (next to the Globe) Talk to him and there will be these options: Random Match, GTS, Musical Shot, Battle Video, and Information.

Select GTS (obviously XD) and then you'll be asked GTS or GTS Negotiation, or Information again. Click GTS > Trade. Save yadda yadda, you'll connect to GTS very similar to all the previous Generations, with the Platinum, HGSS addition of searching by Location. Yay~

I believe the GTS Negotiation is when you connect with someone at random and you can "bargain trade" with them with any Pokemon they have. I haven't fully tried it yet; nobody's on around my area, according to Black version. XD

Oh, ok. Im assuming thaat ultra balls are better than pokeballs, but then net balls are probably more likely against bug and water etc...

Cheers anyway.

Thanks Galdy!

RE: 'One Shake, Caught!'
Rowey, thats for general catch rate. I dont think that has much to do with the likelyhood of getting a so called Critical Catch. I think that its just down to luck!

Just happened to me again there and I noticed that when you throw the ball during a critical catch (on it's way to the pokemon) there is a kick-ass high pitched 'woosh' noise. Kind of like a whistle. Awesome.

So the characteristics of the Critical Catch are the whistling noise as it rushes towards the pokemon, the mid-air vibration of the ball once the pokémon has been consumed and of course the 'one shake, caught'.

Scott, I don't think he meant the variety of Pokeballs having an effect on the chance of getting a Critical Capture - rather, I think he might have meant the different types of balls having a higher chance of capturing the Pokemon when it does activate this new feature, as even a Critical Capture does not guarantee a successful capture.

^Yes.

Every ball, including the Masterball, all have the chance of Critical Catch. It's pretty much based on luck.

Though I would like to note, as in for me, it happens when the Pokemon are at full health. xD Also, it might capture legendary Pokemon too... urrrrgh Tornelos...memories...shattering out of my Quick Ball Critical. D:

But I also like to think, as Spiri mentioned, that each ball has its catch rate when the Critical Catch is activated.

Spoiler
Let's say x3 is added to the catch rate when critical is happening. Let's make up numbers!

Poke Ball (10) [Basic ball] x 3 = 30%
Great Ball (20) [has a x2 rate than the PokeBall] x 3 = 60%
Ultra Ball (40) [because it has a x2 rate better than Great] x 3 = 120% (not exactly perfect)

etc. Then you'll divide the number of the ball you used when the critical is activated on said Pokemon's catch rate. Let's use Cobalon's 3%, aka 3. You're using an Ultra Ball on it.

120/3 = 40% so 40/100 you'll likely catch it, which is kind of low.

Remember, this is made up numbers, and I'm not calculating the thing for real. XD This is how I view Critical Catch in my head, so maybe take this for consideration I guess.

Also, Galdr, I'm just throwing this in - over the course of last night and this afternoon, I caught Cobalion, Terakion and Virizion in ordinary Pokeballs. XD
